"David Brunner's music is lyrical, fresh-sounding and always creative.  His music is a favorite with the choir as well as the audience!"

Riccardo Muti's Last

Last weekend Riccardo Muti conducted performances of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in Orchestra Hall, his last as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.   This conductor, chorus and orchestra brought incredible artistry to this large and long, monumental work.  Even in the highest seats of the Flynn Gallery the music soared!

Music in the Park

Each year I look forward to the return of the Grant Park Music Festival, nine weeks of free classical concerts at the Prtizker Pavilion in Chicago's Millennium Park, featuring the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.  This year's big opener was Dvorak's Stabat Mater, a piece I had never heard live.  Beautiful singing and playing, some wine and a picnic, and the perfect Chicago summer evening.  Priceless!

Marin Alsop and the Philadelphia Orchestra

Sometime toward the end of May I received notice from Boosey & Hawkes, my publisher in London, that the Philadelphia Orchestra had requested permission to orchestrate my PHOENIX SONG for a concert June 3rd with the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop.  Did they have my permission?  Yes, please!

The performance in Verizon Hall of the Kimmel Cultural Campus was magnificent.  The Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus, ANNA Crusis Feminist Choir and Philadelphia Voices of Pride sang beautifully, the orchestration was lush and lovely, and the orchestra was... well, the Philadelphia Orchestra.  This was a concert I will long remember.

Chicago, St. Louis and Gatlinburg

It was wonderful to hear talented singers from around the country perform at festivals in Chicago, St. Louis and Gatlinburg the past several weekends.  Bravo/a to all of the singers, conductors and pianists, and their supportive parents and chaperones!

Music of the Baroque and Lyric Opera of Chicago

What a great opportunity to hear monumental performances in Chicago a few weeks back.  Music of the Baroque performed an exquisite performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, led by Dame Jane Glover, and Lyric Opera premiered three new operas by Daniel Bernard Roumain, Caroline Shaw and John Luther Adams. A provocative and challenging afternoon.
